Aside from the Toshiba logo, the new drive looks as if it could have come from any manufacturer.ĭespite its plain exterior, the HDDR320E03X's (rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?) internals are plentiful. I'm sure the ABS is just as sturdy as the metal case, but I think the drive has lost the uniqueness of the 200GB model's metal case, with its rounded sides. Toshiba's new case design also has switched from a mostly metal to a mostly ABS plastic enclosure. The drive is black, with a choice of either gray, green, or red stripes. ![]() ![]() That's not a huge difference, but it makes the drive more pocketable. This 320GB drive sits in a new enclosure-one that's smaller (3.2 by 5 by 0.7 inches, HWD) than that of the 200GB Toshiba drive we previously looked at (3.5 by 5.6 by 0.9 inches). It has enough space to keep several backups of your notebook or your desktop PC, or backups of all your files, including video, music, and photos. ![]() Its strengths include Mac- and Windows-compatible backup software, a compact exterior, and a large storage capacity. The Toshiba HDDR320E03X ($199.99 list) is one of the new crop of 320GB 2.5-inch (notebook class) external hard drives.
